Lakshmi, Tamil Nadu
I am Lakshmi from Mathur village, Kancheepuram - Tamil Nadu. I worked as a part-time at a government sanitation project for Rs.2000/PM.
ATF, in 2013 started sanitation project to create awareness on open defecation. I joined as a Project Coordinator at the field level. The programme touched a chord as I could relate to my challenges due to the lack of toilet especially during certain periods such as monsoons, pregnancy, etc. I motivated other women to add washroom facility to com plete their homes. In 2 years, my village was announced as Open Defecation Free.
I earn a sum of Rs.15,000/PM now. My journey has enabled me to carve my identity as a joint decision-maker and in society as a change-agent.
