Biodiversity Conservation features as a global initiative with projects implemented in India, Hungary, and the Netherlands, in a partnership model aimed at a greener and healthier tomorrow.
Set against SDG Goal No.13: Climate Action and SDG Goal No. 14: Life below Water, Apollo Tyres’ Biodiversity Conservation initiatives are the result of strong associations that educate, enrich, and engage at strategically identified locations.
Biodiversity conservation is a global challenge that impacts the planet. At Apollo Tyres too, it takes the centre stage as a worldwide intervention designed to conserve Earth’s treasures and enrich them for future generations. We believe our tailor-made interventions at India and Europe locations will have a significant impact in making the planet greener with each passing year.
Mangrove conservation is a key initiative under Biodiversity Conservation theme in India. The company spearheaded the Kannur Kandal Project in 2016 at Kunhimangalam Panchayat, Kannur, Kerala affecting real measurable increase in the acreage of this vital ecological habitat. Under this initiative, awareness sessions are conducted for the local community. For mangrove restoration and conservation periodic plantation activities are conducted in different panchayats of Kannur district.
Partnerships with prestigious organisations like Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), Kerala Forest Department (KFD) yielded far-reaching positive results on all restorative activities.
Climate change is an impending hazard and is yet another key initiative under environmental management at Apollo Tyres. Afforestation has been identified as one of the solutions to fight against climate change. To address the issue, the organisation has undertaken massive tree plantation drives across various districts of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat region. A total of 3, 50,000 teak and red sandal trees were planted at Tamil Nadu and 10,000 trees are planted under Miyawaki project at Gujarat region for emission reduction. The project also engages with local farmers to provide agriculture interventions for soil productivity enhancement.
The Stadbeek project at Enschede, Netherlands has been undertaken in partnership with Enschede Municipality and European Union. The objective of this project is to address issues related to flooding from rainwater and groundwater and improve the local biodiversity. By revitalising the city stream through community participation and collaboration, the company has successfully enhanced local biodiversity and the green cover.
Apollo Tyres has always considered environment as one of its most influential stakeholders. At Gyöngyöshalász, Hungary, the company was involved in conservation of Mátra Mountain to ensure a green future.
