Go The Distance Scholarship winners announced

Six winners get one year scholarship for training with Youth Football International (YFI) Vanlalzahawma, of U15 age group, will also travel to the UK to join a week-long Manchester United Soccer Schools residential training camp

Apollo Tyres, in association with Manchester United, today announced the winners of Apollo Go The Distance Scholarship programme. Aimed at nurturing young football talent in India, the scholarship programme, held at the American Embassy School, New Delhi from May 11 – 15, 2015, saw the participation of 192 kids from U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 age groups.

During the 5 day programme, the kids were shown a range of movements and techniques linked to Manchester United coaching methods by Mikael Silvestre, former Manchester United defender, and two especially flown-in Manchester United Soccer School (MUSS) coaches. One kid from each age group was chosen for the Apollo Go The Distance Scholarship, who will undergo a year-long training with Youth Football International in Delhi.

The scholarship winners, from each age group, are:
1. Louie Bastin, U9
2. Fahad Temuri, U11
3. Shay Smith, U13
4. Vanlalzahawma, U15
5. Sahil Kumar, U17
6. Kevin Malhotra, U19

Out of the 6 winners, Vanlalzahawma of U15 age group category will also join a week-long residential training camp with Manchester United Soccer Schools in the UK.

The Apollo Go The Distance Scholarship programme concluded yesterday late in the evening with a United: Live event in New Delhi, which saw thousands of fans watch the Manchester United v Arsenal match broadcast live from Old Trafford.
