The sustenance of environmental capital is a core area of focus, whereby projects are designed to mutually benefit the stakeholders. Biodiversity conservation is a global challenge that impacts the planet.
Set against SDG Goal No.13: Climate Action and SDG Goal No. 14: Life below Water, Apollo Tyres’ Biodiversity Conservation initiatives are the result of strong associations that educate, enrich, and engage at strategically identified locations.
At Apollo Tyres, it has taken a centre stage as a global initiative with our commitment to reach out to nearly half a million beneficiaries by FY’26 for biodiversity conservation. We believe our tailor-made interventions engaging local communities in awareness activities in India and Europe locations will have a significant impact in making the planet greener with each passing year.
Towards this direction, the Company has taken following steps as a strategic roadmap.
A) Became a member of Indian Business and Biodiversity Initiative (IBBI) to mainstream sustainable management of biodiversity in alignment with UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
B) Pledged to conserve and plant 1.05 million tress with 1t.org (a part of World Economic Forum to support UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration)
This event is in cognizance to our global commitment to Biodiversity Conservation and part of Mangrove Conservation project. It is a sincere effort to amplify the importance of biological diversity and to bring environmental behavioral change amongst the youth, who are going to build a sustainable future.
Climate change is an impending hazard and is yet another key initiative under environmental management at Apollo Tyres. Afforestation has been identified as one of the solutions to fight against climate change. To address the issue, the organisation has undertaken massive tree plantation drives across various districts of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat region. A total of 3, 50,000 teak and red sandal trees were planted at Tamil Nadu and 10,000 trees are planted under Miyawaki project at Gujarat region for emission reduction. The project also engages with local farmers to provide agriculture interventions for soil productivity enhancement.
The Stadbeek project at Enschede, Netherlands has been undertaken in partnership with Enschede Municipality and European Union. The objective of this project is to address issues related to flooding from rainwater and groundwater and improve the local biodiversity. By revitalising the city stream through community participation and collaboration, the company has successfully enhanced local biodiversity and the green cover.
Apollo Tyres has always considered environment as one of its most influential stakeholders. At Gyöngyöshalász, Hungary, the company was involved in conservation of Mátra Mountain to ensure a green future.
